Wellington Monument
Prominent on the skyline of the scarp of the Blackdown Hills, a 175-foot high triangular tower, erected in Wellington’s honour, to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). At night it is illuminated and is a landmark for miles around. The monument has steps which can be climbed, but not for the faint hearted! Visitors are rewarded with a superb view from the Blackdown Hills, across some of Somerset’s most breathtaking countryside. - Knightshayes Court, a country estate on a grand Gothic scale. The house is a rare example of the work of William Burges, with rich decorations, gargoyles, corbels and a medieval inspired great hall.
The garden is one of the finest in Devon with over 1200 plant species unique to Knightshayes and riotous seasonal colour. It goes without saying this is a place worth a visiting. - Hestercombe Gardens,has a fabulous fifty acres of lakes, temples, cascades, tranquil woodland walks, formal terraces.
- Killerton house, is a fine 18th-century house with renowned historical fashion collection surrounded by a spectacular landscape garden and parkland.
North Somerset Coast
Explore this dramatic coastline on the West Someret Railway. Take a visit to Dunster Castle and Village or the nearby seaside town of Minehead. The Exmoor National Park has an amazing variety of landscapes within its 267 square miles and is only 30 minutes away from Greenacres by car.
North Devon Coast
